On May 16, the Civil War Round Table of New York celebrated its 75th anniversary, making it one of the oldest round tables dedicated to the study of the American Civil War. Among its founders were Ulysses S. Grant III, John Pemberton III, and J. E. B. Stuart III. The first official meeting was held on January 24, 1951.

Over the years, many distinguished speakers and authors era music was provided by John Portanova. The Bell I. Wiley Award, a nonliterary prize for achievement in the study of the Civil War, has been given to Ken Burns, Jerry Russell, Edwin C. Bearss, and Jeff Shaara, among others. Battlefield trips have included Gettysburg, the Shenandoah Valley, Shiloh, and Vicksburg, to name a few.
